RNLI crew stops runaway yacht running aground

First published in News

A runaway yacht in the Solent was prevented from running aground by lifeboat crews.

The Solent University One vessel slipped its mooring close to the entrance to the River Hamble at 8.45pm on Thursday.

A Cowes RNLI crew broke off from a training session to attend to the 25ft boat. They pulled out its anchor to help stabilise it before it became stranded on the shore near Hamble Marina.

The yacht – which was undamaged in the incident – was towed to safety in the early hours of Friday morning by staff from a nearby boatyard.
