One person dead as car bursts into flames on Milford Road near Lymington

Daily Echo: Serious crash shuts main road Serious crash shuts main road

A HAMPSHIRE road closed following the death of a motorist after their car crashed and burst into flames has been reopened.

The accident on the A337 in the New Forest, which saw the car career off the road and explode into flames, happened in the early hours of this morning.

Police and fire crews were called at 3.10am this morning to Milford Road between Everton and Pennington, after reports of a car on fire.

Officers found a white Volvo saloon car on fire in a ditch. It is believed that the car had been travelling from Lymington towards New Milton, when it came off the road and collided with trees and caught fire.

Totton Road Policing Unit's Sgt Glen Barham, said: "About 3.10am this morning we received a call to say that a vehicle had been found off the road and on fire on Milford Road.

"Police were deployed to it with the fire service.

"We have identified that a deceased person was found in the vehicle and we are working to identify the person so that we can make sure that next of kin are informed.

"We are exploring all opportunities and we are keeping an open mind."

Accident investigators from Hampshire Police have been at the scene for most of the day, forcing its closure between the B3058 Lymington Road, Everton, and Haglane Copse, Lymington.

But it has now been reopened.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen the car or otherwise be able to help in the investigation to contact Totton Road Policing Unit on 101, quoting Operation Ascella.

With silver street being closed for bridge repairs it is chaos. Wains ford road has been narrowed so that makes it tricky. Best way is long route up Everton road to Hordle then Vaggs lane to Sway road and then to Sway. Turn right down Pitmore lane to Wheel Inn crossroads.

its not about inconvenience! its about lorry drivers driving carelessly down narrow roads which could cause another accident! obviously my heart goes out to the person that has died, wouldn't wish that on anyone. just making the point that there is no need for lorry drivers to drive at speed down narrow roads and that there was already one victim in the ditch and me being nearly the second!. where in that sentence did I say it was a inconvenience to myself, its just stupidity on the lorry drivers part and maybe you should read and take in the comment so you fully understand what I wrote before you comment.

It's not a question of whether they are 'speeding', but driving in a way that is appropriate for ROAD/weather/TRAFFIC conditions! In circumstances such as those which occurred early today, considering the location, it is quite likely that a diversion would entail using roads which, under normal circumstances, would not be suitable for HGV's, but when needs must! It should be a 'no brainer' for drivers of such vehicles to show extra care at such times. I can't count the number of HGV's I see tailgating - not only to intimidate other road users, but also tailgating each other - every day.

not in the ditch which is where i nearly ended up to due to lorries coming towards me at speed! they could down to sway and up to bashley round about! least its not as narrow
Ok if they are locals and know that route, some poor person has lost their life so suffer a bit of inconvenience for the morning.
its not about inconvenience! its about lorry drivers driving carelessly down narrow roads which could cause another accident! obviously my heart goes out to the person that has died, wouldn't wish that on anyone. just making the point that there is no need for lorry drivers to drive at speed down narrow roads and that there was already one victim in the ditch and me being nearly the second!. where in that sentence did I say it was a inconvenience to myself, its just stupidity on the lorry drivers part and maybe you should read and take in the comment so you fully understand what I wrote before you comment.
its about time lorry drivers remember that they are not driving their cars and that lorries should be driven slower and with more care
thank you Mickey01 that's exactly what I was getting at right at the beginning!
So being a walking GATSO you can tell these trucks are speeding or are you guessing along with generalising that all lorry drivers are idiots.
Sorry stupid.
Didn't say all lorry drivers . Just the idiots in lorries that nearly beat me off the road and did make another diver end up off the road, If they were driving slower and with more caution being a larger vehicle that wouldn't have happened... Again read and take it In fully before jumping the gun. It's a narrow road no need to drive like that and cause more accidents common sense I believe they call that.

Do you drive a lorry for a living. If you don't I would suggest you don't have the first clue just what it's like.
It's a catch 22 you slow to a sensible speed and people complain your going to slow, you speed up and people call them stupid. Not to mention the idiots that then put others at risk by overtaking.
As for motorways would you prefer a lorry moves to the middle lane to over take 100 yards from the vehicle infront.
That shouldn't course to much disruption to other road users. On top of this even if a driver does leave a safe distance some idiot normally more than 1 jumps into that gap.
It's a low paid unrewarding industry that's slowly being killed by cheap unskilled labour mostly from abroard.
And before you shout racist I have witnessed in the last 18 months drivers that don't have the first clue how to even adjust seats. 1 that couldnt put a vehicle into gear and more than I can mention that can't hitch up trailers safely
As I said before if trucks were removed from the road tomorrow yes they would be empty but so would the shops, factory's, offices and just about everything else you can think of.

I'm sorry if I offend but I hate hearing these drivers called stupid or idiots

I do agree with what you just wrote completely, not saying take them off the road suppose most drivers in all vehicles should drive more carefully to avoid accidents and more deaths but I do stick with the fact drivers of larger vehicles on narrow roads should drive with more caution
