A HAMPSHIRE cyclist has been reunited with his new road bike after finding it up for sale on eBay – just miles from where it was stolen.

John Whalvin, from Rownhams, was furious when his three-day-old Boardman CX road bike was stolen from outside Southampton Solent University’s library.

Determined to get it back, the 41-year-old scoured the Internet to see if the thieves would sell it online. And sure enough he tracked it down to an address in Eastleigh two days later.

The next day his wife went to view the bike, posing as an interested customer, and called police.

She took possession of the bike and stayed until officers arrived, who then arrested the seller.

He told police he had bought it a few days previously on another Internet site.

John said: “When I found it online I was physically shaking and when we got it back I felt a whole weight of relief.”

A 25-year-old man from Eastleigh has been arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods and has been bailed until September 9.

What an idiot! Deserved to get caught! I caught someone trying to steal £3000 worth of iphones from my company and set up a sting but the police didn't want to know. Glad they were interested in the Halfords bike

Nah, the police aren't interested in iPhones, they've already got their walkie-talkies

Bitter or what? Why the comment about the bike being from Halfords?
It doesn't matter where the bike is from, the owner did well and got his bike back and I'm pleased for him.

Perhaps your arrogant attitude helped the police decide that you weren't deserving of any help to get your phones back? :/

It's clear you're not a very smart person so far. I'd stop commenting on this one now.

Im just highlighting the ineptitude of the police to do their jobs. I'm glad he got his bike back from the thieving scumbag but I brought the same issue to them for 5 times the cost and they told me they weren't interested. So forgive my bitterness with the police and butt out with your cretinous conjecture
