Body of doctors' receptionist found dead on shore

TRIBUTES have been paid to a young receptionist who was found dead on a shore in Southampton.

Southampton Coroner’s Court has named Rebecca Currie, 24, as the dead woman who was discovered on the River Itchen shoreline at Hazel Road in the Woolston area of the city on Sunday.

Rebecca was known to hundreds of patients in Winchester because she worked as a receptionist in The Friarsgate Practice in Weeke. She had worked there for just under six months, and colleagues and patients have been coming to terms with the loss of a popular member of staff.

Practice manager Bob Wood led tributes from those in the surgery.

He said: “The doctors and staff offer their heartfelt condolences and support to the family at this incredibly difficult time.

“The whole of The Friarsgate Practice is devastated by the sad loss of one of its youngest team members under such tragic circumstances.”

To allow staff and patients to reflect on the tragedy, the surgery closed for one hour yesterday.

Mr Wood said: “We had the opportunity, albeit for a brief time, to come together as a team and reflect on the loss of such a bright young lady and to offer our support to those staff members struggling to come to terms with this news. Becca will be fondly rem-embered and sadly missed by us all.”

Rebecca attended Regents Park Community College and then Totton College in 2008. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

An inquest into her death has been opened.

RIP
Doctors surgery receptionists are put through so much stress because doctors surgeries are full to capacity and are constantly telling patients that the next available appointment is 2 or 3 weeks away.

If it was as easy as you say get a grip then people would. I wish suicides wouldnt get reported, ive said this time and again until im blue in the face, if you havent been there you dont know what its like, stress affects anyone yes from 24 at times. Ive been there so I know what im talking about. Unless and until there is more help available to people who feel this way it will continue. I hope you never feel this way and if you ever do I hope you get the help you need. So if you see anyone attempting to end their life just go up to them and saystop doing it its ridiculous and get a grip. I dont want to appear rude towards you, we all have our opinions, youve expressed yours and me mine but please try and show a little compassion

Get a grip??? How can you make this comment ?? You did not know what the person was going through, In these situation when a person is going through such a difficult time it's not always as easy as 'getting a grip' Show a little more respect, she was a great person, don't comment on a situation you know nothing about!!

im fed up of hearing the reports in the papers about suicide.
any of you think it wasnt, then your wrong.
have a go at the newspapers that print this stuff, as they are the ones telling the stories and it makes others think about how easy it is to do it and getting popular or fashionable way to go.

Who do you think picks up the pieces when they kill themselves?
The people that find them are haunted by what they find for years.
The Police, Ambulance, Fire brigade, the guys who take their bodies to mortuary, the people who do the post mortems, the priests who do the funerals, then of course all the family and friends they leave behind.
Its not ok to do this and papers need to stop publishing it.

I have known Rebecca for many years and to find out about her passing has taken us all by shock. Its disgraceful that some people can be so disrespectful. You have been given a small bit of infomation from the newspaper and think you know about it all.
