A SOUTHAMPTON man was spared a prison sentence after a judge accepted he had been drawn into a knife-related confrontation with another man against his wishes.

The city crown court heard how police had been called to the rumpus, following a 999 call.

Prosecutor Nicholas Hamblin said officers found Steven Kayley sitting in his car and told him to put his hands on the steering wheel which he did, before admitting he had a knife in the glove compartment and another in his pocket.

Kayley, 38, of Millbrook Road East, admitted affray.

Judge Peter Ralls QC gave Kayley, who was of previous good character, a six-month community order with a three-month curfew and told him to pay £500 costs

What's a knife related confrontation?
Does this mean the other person had a knife? Were they arrested too?
