A TEENAGER was left with a broken finger after he was kicked and punched during a terrifying gang robbery.

The 16-year-old was bundled to the ground by a gang of four youths who then launched a brutal attack with their fists and feet.

The terrified victim was left with cuts and bruises to the face and fractured a finger during the frightening ordeal.

Police say he was walking to Witts Hill in Southampton from Mousehole Lane on Monday evening when he saw a group of nine youths near the junction of Vanguard Road at the bus stop.

They started to shout abuse at him so he diverted his route to avoid confrontation.

The victim used his Samsung Galaxy phone to call a friend that he was due to meet and realised four people were behind him. He was forced to the ground, punched and kicked. His phone was then taken.

Investigating Officer DC Chris Moss said: “Members of the group responsible are all described as male and around 16-years-old, however the victim is unable to provide specific details of facial features.

“He was left with nasty injuries as a result of this attack and I'd urge anyone who may have seen what happened to contact us”.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC Chris Moss at Bitterne CID on 101 or call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.

Vanguard Road seems to be pooping up a lot on news lately for all the wrong reasons. Guns, knives, swinging cats around. Makes you wonder who they've been housing there.

Weekend free for all with kids carrying rucksacks full of booze all fighting smoking skunk having sex etc is the norm around that area. The phone box outside that shop must be the only one that never gets vandalised because the Locals all use it to ring their dealer who pops along the layby to sort them out. its rife and goes on all hours 7 days a week and the Police know all about it.

Four youths are not a 'gang' please don't give them an ego boost by describing them as such, they are bullies with low egos and low self esteem.
Maybe the police should crack down on that shop that knowingly sells alcohol to older teens who sell it on to the youths.
some of them tried venturing up to Witts hill shops but soon went back to Vanguard after they found the locals there won't get their drinks for them.
