Home form is Pochettino's worry

Mauricio Pochettino insists Saints need to improve their home form if they are to progress.

Saints travel to Crystal Palace this afternoon seeking a record sixth Premier League away win of the season.

Their form on the road has been superb, with five wins, four draws and five defeats yielding an impressive 19 points.

They have won three of their last six league games away – at Cardiff, Fulham and Hull.

But while that has been cause for celebration, Saints have only accrued one more point at St Mary’s, with a record of five wins, five draws and four defeats.

Saints have only recorded one home win since thrashing Hull in early November.

Pochettino doesn’t feel it has anything to do with Saints’ approach to the game, but recognises the differences.

“In the last few months we have played some really tough games at home and that might explain it a little bit,” he said. “We played against Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, so these were very tough teams we were playing against.

“Our mentality never changes, it’s always the same.

“It’s clear that in every single game we correct certain things.

“There are little details we change for every single team we are playing and overall we are very happy with the team’s performances.

“It is clear that we need to improve at home to be higher in the table and that’s our goal.”

He added: “We are a team that always tries to play the same way.

“We always try to be protagonists in the game.

We always try to dominate the game whether we are playing at St Mary’s or away. “It is always the same style – going out to win.

“It’s clear that these situations can happen where we don’t get as many points at home as we are getting away.

“Overall, I think we are a brave side who always tries to play, always tries to win.

“Over time we will find the balance between the two of them.

“The team’s youth and experience puts this team on the right path.”

Saints are giving themselves all the time available to assess the fitness of the 18 players who have been away on international duty before confirming a team for Palace. Kelvin Davis, who is sidelined for some time with a hamstring problem, is definitely out.

Pochettino’s men secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Palace back in September when Ian Holloway was in charge of the Eagles.

But it could be a tougher afternoon against Tony Pulis’ side.

“All games in the Premier League are very important and very intense and this will be no different,” said Pochettino.

“Crystal Palace will be very tough opposition, we are well aware of that.

“They are a very aggressive side, they have a clear style of play that has been imposed by Tony Pulis.

“We know we are going to be facing very tough opposition.”

Hopefully Palace will feel the need to try and win the points, rather than sit back and catch us out with hoofball tactics, over the top.
Wasn't surprised to read MP's comments, yesterday, about Palace having become an aggressive team that likes to hit a lot of long balls.
Another Stoke in the making, whilst Pulis is in charge.

As far as I know there is no actual written rule about shouting on line, it is purely and unwritten law of etiquet that regards using upper case letters as shouting and generally regarded as bad manners. Shouting is legitimate if it is to make a point, i.e. "UP THE SAINTS", however it is frowned upon if the shouting is used to abuse another person. RARTS is the exception on here, people seem to like the rabel rousing style, I personally don't, as I think it is OTT and has lost it's impact, but that is just my opinion which as far as I know being a free country I am entitled to. This site needs it's different styles of posting to keep it interesting, long may it continue.

Forgive me for sounding negative here but, didn't we beat three of the above at home last season?

MP says we need to improve our home form to progress. I agree, of course, but based solely on his observations, this is not progression on our home form this season. Away form has been fantastic though, so another away win today please.

When I look at the teams that are left, I see it as a lost opportunity to have done well in the FA Cup, it's not to be this year I am afraid, have to make do with a mid table slot in the Premier, make some decent transfer investments and look forward to the next Season. Really hope we can get back to winning ways today.
There's no way Newcastle are a better side than us, so as a minimum we need to overtake them in the coming weeks.
Hope also that our strikers will have their shooting boots on for a change too. I truly think that JayRod can become a hell of a player, if he can just sort out his finishing. Seems to lack the conviction to put his foot through it, and seems to strike it a little too centrally when given chances, giving the keeper a chance to save.
Be good to also get back to basics with a clean sheet, so 2-0 please boys!
Finally to those going to the game, have fun and sing your hearts out. If we could get the same passion and enthusiasm from the crowd at home as our superb away support gives, it would surely benefit the home form.

So what does constitute a true Saints supporter? Is it a certain number of years as a fan? Is it attitude? Is it living there? Posting here? going to games or watching on the tele from afar? Are there points to accumulate for each of these and a total to reach?
On the other hand, to be a Poopey supporter only requires a lack of judgement; an extra chromosome or finger?
